Like many of our CEOs, I wake up every morning believing I have the best job in the world, and I go to bed every night challenging myself to do a better job tomorrow.
John leads TCV’s European investment efforts with a focus on the software, fintech, and internet sectors. He currently serves on the boards of Believe, Elevate (NYSE: ELVT), NewVoiceMedia, Retail Merchant Services, tastyworks, and WorldRemit. He was also actively involved in TCV’s investments including Automated Trading Desk (acquired by Citigroup), Brillen.de, Capella Education Company (NASDAQ: CPLA), FinancialForce, FX Alliance (acquired by Thomson Reuters), Interactive Brokers (NASDAQ: IBKR), Orbitz (NASDAQ: OWW), Spotify, and Thinkorswim (acquired by Investools).
John joined TCV in 2000, having previously worked as a business development manager at Della.com. He started his career as an investment banking analyst at Robertson Stephens in San Francisco.
John was born in Baltimore and grew up on the set of the children’s television show Romper Room. In 1953 his entrepreneurial grandparents decided they wanted to put nursery school on TV. Romper Room was born and eventually aired for 40 years in over 100 cities worldwide. Search online long enough, and you might find one of the many episodes in which John was a 4-year-old fill-in for a local child who may have been sick or snowed in at home. Many years later, and despite now living in London, John still finds time to support his hometown Orioles and Ravens, and he relishes every opportunity to go skiing, fishing, hiking or traveling with his wife and three children. He is passionate about education and previously served on the board of Rocketship Education in California.
John received a B.A. in Economics and Politics from Princeton University.
