Ric Fenton

General Partner

I love solving complex problems through critical thinking, creativity, and a touch of optimism. The more challenging and novel the problem, the more energized I am by it.

Background
Ric serves as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. He is responsible for deal structuring and execution (including investments and exits), portfolio matters, compliance, partnership matters, and other legal and administrative functions. Ric brings his legal and transactional expertise to bear across all of TCV’s market sectors, advising and guiding deal teams throughout the investment process.

Prior to joining TCV in 2008, Ric was an attorney in the Palo Alto and New York offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, a leading corporate law firm. At Simpson Thacher, Ric advised leading private equity firms, corporations, and investment banks on a wide range of M&A and securities law matters, including public and private leveraged buyouts, stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, minority co-investments, securities offerings, and PIPE financings.

Interests
Ric enjoys playing tennis, running half marathons, scuba diving, and skiing with his family. He and his family are avid University of Michigan fans, easily recognized on football Saturdays by their head-to-toe maize and blue apparel (dog included). Ric also harbors allegiances to the Duke Blue Devils in basketball, an occasional conflict of interest that he manages delicately.

Education
Ric received a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the Duke University School of Law.
